This mini backpack is the perfect size for use as a handbag but with even more space. I love the hands-free aspect provided by the backpack style straps, but it can also be carried on my arm with the top handles. I was able to use ingredients I already had in my stash for everything except the straps and hardware.
I bought the pattern from Noodlehead, called the Mini Making Backpack. I also found a great step-by-step video on YouTube by one of my favorite bag makers, Jess from OklaRoots that proved very helpful as I constructed the bag, although she does make it look easier than I found it. Maybe the 2nd one will be easier! I learned more about binding than I cared to, as I had to rip out one whole section because it came out absolutely terrible. I’m still not satisfied with the binding, but it’s good enough for the interior of a bag. I need a lot more practice before I get comfortable with that particular skill.
The bag is 8″ wide, 10″ tall, and 4″ deep. It has one exterior slip pocket and one interior patch pocket. The pattern instructions call for a zippered interior pocket but I didn’t have enough fabric to make this. Perhaps in the next one.
