In my quest to use more challenging materials, I found this waxed canvas at a nearby fabric store in Portland, Bolt Fabrics. Many of my patterns call for waxed canvas but I’ve never used it because not too many of the fabric stores carry it in any interesting colors. I like the look of the fabric with all of its creases and I like the structure it naturally has. I think over time it will look better and better.
I followed the basic tote pattern I’ve used before for Remy’s bag and my ukulele supply bag. It’s approximately 12″ tall and 18″ wide at the top with a 7 1/2″ deep base. I made a separate bottom piece and quilted it to foam for added stability, and lined the whole bag with a gray quilt cotton. I added a divided slip pocket in the interior. This is an open bag in a large size, perfect for carrying clothes or miscellany between houses.
