Denim Tote with Rolled Handles

This is my second tote using the Fremont Tote pattern from Ellie Lum, but with changes based on my experience with the first one. This one is my favorite so far. I used left-over palm tree denim, olive green polka dot contrasting side inserts, and a green canvas bottom.

Features: I excluded the exterior pocket, but I added a contrasting fabric strip in the center of each side after I accidentally cut the side panels incorrectly. The top closes with a nice long zipper and therefore opens nice and wide. There’s one interior patch pocket. I used a plain denim for the handles, attached them to the sides, and folded them an extra time for a rolled handle look. The bottom is boxed and the lining is a drop in, also with a boxed bottom.

Lessons Learned:

  • If the handles were slightly longer, the bag could be carried on the shoulder.
  • I miss the exterior pocket.
