Pencil Cases

Cork Pencil Cases
Nylon Case

I bought some cork scraps from Sallie Tomato which were just the right size for a variety of pencil cases. I love working with cork. It doesn’t need to be lined unless I choose to because the ends won’t fray. It’s sturdy and comes in lots of colors and designs. I experimented with various zipper applications but haven’t found the exact right method for me yet. Everyone seems to have their own specific way to attach them. I’ll keep trying. On one case I created a 3D flower and riveted it in place. This one is going to Karla for her art pencils.

Each case starts with 2 pieces of cork 11 1/2″ by 5″. The bottom is boxed to make a 2″ deep bag. The top is a bit tapered before the zipper is added by angling from the bottom corner to 1 1/2″ from each side. This is a great scrap buster project.

I made another one for Charlie using rip stop nylon and lined it with quilt cotton. I didn’t bother with any interfacing so it’s a soft, pliable bag. He was able to stuff 24 sharpies and pens inside!
